3 Reasons To Use HDPE Sheets To Build Commercial Kitchen Surfaces

When you fit out a new commercial kitchen, you need to choose work surface materials. For example, you need countertop and cutting board materials that are up to the job and that meet health and hygiene standards.

As you start to look at suitable materials, make sure to add high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheets to your shortlist. What are the benefits of using this thermoplastic in your kitchen?

1. Better Hygiene

Your kitchen countertops and cutting surfaces need to be hygienic. However, some surface materials lose their hygienic integrity as they age.

For example, cutting board areas sometimes become harder to clean over time. Scratches, cuts, and wear give dirt and bacteria places to hide. These areas are hard to get completely clean.

Some surfaces, such as wood, don't always stand the test of time. For example, wood surfaces might start to splinter and crack. If moisture gets into the surface, then the wood will start to rot.

At some stage, the wood will be too unhygienic to use. You might also need to replace it if it becomes so damaged that you can't work on it.

HDPE surfaces last longer. They have more damage resistance. They are also moisture-resistant, so they won't suffer from water damage.

3. Less Knife Damage

HDPE surfaces are less likely to be damaged by knives. They can stand up to cutting and chopping a lot more robustly than some surfaces.

However, you also have to think about how a surface material will affect your knives themselves. Wood can dull knife blades; metal can damage them. Given the price you pay for commercial knives, you want them to stay in good shape.

HDPE doesn't affect blades. Your knives are less likely to dull or get damaged if you use this thermoplastic as a cutting surface.
